Food Allergies

We appreciate that food allergies and sensitivities are a serious concern for many families today.  We take the responsibility of providing safe, healthy, and tasty food to ALL of our campers very seriously.

Kohut is completely nut free. We do not serve any foods containing nuts and our kitchen staff carefully screen any and all food deliveries.  We even go so far as to collaborate with our Trip Day ice cream parlors (It is a Kohut tradition to end Trip Day with ice cream!) to ensure that no nut products are served to any member of a Kohut group, all scoops are freshly cleaned, and new tubs of ice cream are opened for our visit to prevent cross-contamination.

At Kohut we safely and successfully cater for children with Celiac Disease and other wheat and gluten sensitivities, as well as allergies to dairy, soy, fish, seeds, eggs and indeed, a whole range of other allergies.  We use a separate area and separate equipment to create and prepare meals for our campers with allergies. The food is then discreetly and sensitively monitored and delivered by the chefs, under the added supervision of our nurses and Directors.

As in so many areas of Camp, we see handling food allergies as a partnership with parents to provide the best care possible for each child.  While Kohut is able to provide much of the food to accommodate children with food allergies, in some specific cases we may ask parents to send their child with personally preferred food alternatives.

Please call us if you have any questions or concerns about how we handle food allergies.
