Well folks it’s that time of year, three weeks into the session, the lake is at a perfect temperature and Daspy has broken in the tents to a close to perfection standard. That can only mean one thing, it’s time for the

Second Year Seniors to embark on one of the most envied of adventures, the pinnacle of all Trip Days, the Bar Harbor experience!!!!

With the vans loaded, the coolers packed and excitement at an all time high, we set off on our trip, 24 campers and 6 staff in tow; we were ready.

With the drive being around 3½ hours in total, we were happy to arrive at our campsite, where we pitched tents and set up home base for the next couple of days. Our fantastic Outdoor Education team cooked a huge pot of Irish stew, a traditional recipe handed down by the one and only Joe Long, and we all ate a family meal in the fresh air of the oaky woods.

With a belly full of goodness, we left for the much anticipated Great Maine Lumberjack Show, hosted by the one and only Timber Tina. Tina and her lumberjacks put on a fabulous show with disk cutting, log rolling, and tree climbing all on the menu. The only way they could have been even cooler, was if they were camp counselors themselves!

We returned to our basecamp where we settled down for the night, with s’mores and other goodies.  We went to bed ready for an early awakening at 3:30am to travel to Cadillac Mountain and watch the sunrise at the furthest eastern point of the continental US. The wind was cold but spirits were high, as we sat patiently awaiting the arrival of the sun, where we were joined at the top of the mountain by other onlookers, and even a wedding, to witness the beauty of the sunrise.

Later in the day we arrived in the town of Bar Harbor, and spent the afternoon shopping and exploring. The kids spent their money on moose hats and other gifts to bring home to their families, and we spent time bonding and getting to know each other better. After our exciting day we refueled at a pizza parlor where we had our second proper family meal, the perfect end to the perfect day.

On Wednesday morning we slept in and ate breakfast at our leisure, wearing all of our new apparel we bought the day before. Before getting back into our vans, we proudly donned our Kohut uniform and headed towards our real home, heavy with invaluable memories and stories.  We could not wait to get back to Kamp and tell everyone of our adventures…but not before stopping off at Polly’s for ice cream of course!!!
