Getting To Kohut

We have many different options to help campers get to and from Kamp Kohut easily.  Families may choose different arrangements for arrival and departure.

Parent Pick Up/Drop Off

Parents are welcome to drop off or pick up their campers.  Arrival time is between 3–5: 00 PM.  If parents bring their campers to camp, they can help them campers unpack their things, set up the bed, and even take a tour of camp.  If parents choose to pick up their camper, he/she will already be packed and ready to go, but parents are still more than welcome to tour around camp.  Pick up time is between 9-11:00 AM.  Parents may bring their camper’s luggage or have it shipped to camp ahead of time.

Maine is home to some of the best restaurants and shops on the east coast. If you plan on driving your child to and from camp we encourage you to check out some local sites  as well as driving directions to Kamp.

Charter Bus

Another option is the Kohut Bus, which is chaperoned by Assistant Director Anthony Pyatt and several counselors.  This large, comfortable coach stops in NYC, Westchester (NY), Westport (CT), and Waltham (MA).  Taking the bus is a great way to make friends, meet new people, and chat with Anthony and the counselors en route to camp.  On the way home, the bus is a great way to spend a few more hours with friends and reminisce about the wonderful summer.  The bus ride is typically seven hours from the first stop in NYC to last stop at camp in Oxford, Maine.  Upon arrival, counselors will be waiting to greet campers coming off the bus, take them to their cabins, and help them settle in by unpacking, makings beds, touring camp and playing games.  Parents will be notified by email as soon as possible once the bus has arrived safely.

Chaperoned Flight

Flying is also a great way to get to and from Kamp Kohut.  Depending upon requests, we generally offer a chaperoned flight to and from the Washington, D.C./Baltimore, and Ft. Lauderdale/Miami, FL areas. With this option, campers and their parents meet a Kohut staff member at the ticket counter on Arrival Day and fly with him/her and other campers to the Portland Jetport.  On the return trip, this chaperone will fly to the destination airport and remain with the camper until his/her parents arrive.  To enable chaperones to focus solely on the children, campers who are traveling by air must ship their luggage.  Luggage will then be delivered and waiting in each camper’s cabin. Upon arrival, counselors will be waiting to greet campers coming off the bus, take them to their cabins, and help them settle in by unpacking, makings beds, touring camp and playing games.  Parents will be notified by email as soon as possible once their camper has arrived safely.

International & Independent Flights

Campers coming to Kamp Kohut from abroad, generally fly on an international flight into Boston’s Logan Airport.  A Kohut staff member will be at the airport to greet the campers and travel back to Kamp Kohut together.  Upon arrival, counselors will be waiting to greet campers, take them to their cabins, and help them settle in by unpacking, makings beds, touring camp and playing games.  Parents will be notified by email as soon as possible once their camper has arrived safely.  On the Departure Day, a Kohut staff member will take our international campers to the airport and remain until the flights have departed.  Luggage is usually brought on an international flight, but families are welcome to ship bags ahead of time.

Campers who travel via independent (non-chaperoned) flights fly into the Portland Jetport, where a Kohut staff member will greet them and travel back to camp together.  Upon arrival, counselors will be waiting to greet campers, take them to their cabins, and help them settle in by unpacking, makings beds, touring camp and playing games.  Parents will be notified by email as soon as possible once their camper has arrived safely.  On the Departure Day, a Kohut staff member will take the independent flyers to the Portland Jetport and remain until the flights have departed.  Campers choosing this option must ship their luggage.
