Caring Comitted Staff
Since 1907, Kamp Kohut has been surrounded by sprawling woods, lush fields, regal pine trees and a truly
spectacular waterfront. We are incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful camp. Of course, you can have the
most beautiful camp in the whole world (and we think we come pretty close!), but all that means nothing
without the right people.
 |
At Kamp Kohut, our staff are a key part of each camper's summer experience and we go out of our way
to ensure that only compassionate, devoted, and competent staff work with our campers. We hire mature,
kind people with wholesome values and a genuine passion for making a positive impact.
In addition to the year-round Admininstrative “Leadership” team, Head Counselors, and Support Staff,
Kamp Kohut employs “Activity Specialists.”
|
Activity Specialists undertake a dual role. They are hired to teach a specific activity in which
they are considered an “expert” and to live in a cabin with children as a counselor. These individuals
are real “people persons,” who truly enjoy working with kids and have a high level of previous experience.
Since they serve as instructors and educators -- and more importantly, as role models and mentors, these
staff are caring, dedicated, highly qualified and carefully trained during nearly two weeks of Kohut
Orientation.

 |
We feel that Kamp Kohut's high caliber program can only be accomplished under the attentive
supervision of sensitive, enthusiastic, and skilled staff. Accordingly, the counselor-to-camper
ratio remains a low 1:3.
Activity Specialists are typically college age and come from colleges and universities across
the country. We also recruit international counselors from English speaking countries through a
highly reputable collegiate student exchange program called BUNAC. The average age of our Activity
Specialists is 21, however we also have college graduates, teachers, and doctoral students.
Minimum age is 19 or one year of college.

|
Our year-round Admin “Leadership” team also believes in a hands-on approach and therefore
remains involved in all of the children's day-to-day activities and operations at camp during
the summer. You will always find Lisa, Dan, Steve, and Jenny on the bunk-line, in the Dining
Hall, or jumping into activities around camp.
Also available 24 hours a day seven days a week are our fully qualified nursing staff. Our
two full-time registered nurses reside on camp and are assisted by three part-time nurses who
live locally. A pediatric medical group is on-call 24/7 and has offices 15 minutes away.
