There's a small chipmunk family that lives near the
Library tree during the winter. These friendly winter residents must be watching
with amazement all the interesting things going on with the new
Dining Hall. They've seen, step by step, the new building go from a
simple foundation to an architectural wonder!! We'd also be willing to bet
they watched with some trepidation and confusion as Bob and Tom had
the Andover/Buckley building lifted and placed in its new home
next to Exeter and "uphill" from the Theatre. We're also sure
their concern was soon alleviated, however, as they discovered this
consolidated the Boys' bunkline and opened up a new expanded Switzerland, with a
view from the Dining Hall porch all the way down to the beautiful shores of Lake
Thompson!
Up in Oxford it is starting to get a little chilly -
especially at night. As the chipmunk family prepares for winter, the
new dining hall is on track to finish important steps before the first
flurries fly. The roof is finished and the windows are in. The
exterior walls are almost complete and the plumbing has been run. The
ground has been prepped for seed which will lie dormant through the
winter and grow into new green grassy areas for young chipmunks
and kampers to delight in frolicking through come spring & summer.
During the winter months it will be time for the work on
the new dining hall to slow down just a bit. The workers will be
spending time with their families during the holiday season, and as
Mother Nature brings forth the snow and ice, attention will turn to some
of the interior work which can continue during the colder
months.
Please keep checking back through the Winter and Spring
for more updates and photos! We're excited to keep you posted!!
