Overview
Characterized by traditional warmth and friendliness, the Kohut program is centered
around learning new skills (physical and social) and a genuine appreciation for the
outdoors. Kohut offers an extensive array of activities to choose from, including a
comprehensive range of waterfront activities, land sports, creative arts, performing arts,
media and adventure programs. Academic tutoring is available upon request. Horseback
riding is offered up to two times per week at a local, private stable.
Adventure & Discovery Await
The “Regular Daily Schedule”
Each day is divided into eight scheduled activity periods, including one "daily choice"
period which provides the opportunity for campers to gain additional exposure to an area
of special interest and "evening activity" which allows each bunk group to participate in
an activity together. Most daily activities are individually scheduled enabling us to group
children according to their skill, interest and age levels.
Initial activity selection is done at home with parental guidance, and then campers choose
a new activity schedule each week, as camp progresses, with the help of a designated
counselor. We go out of our way to schedule all campers with their top choices and all
classes maintain our excellent staff to camper ratio of 1:3.
Weekly Events
Weekly events include campfires, theatre performances, special events (such as dances,
Monte Carlo Night, and Night at the Races), Blue & White Day and exciting outdoor
trips amidst the magnificent lakes, mountains, and coast of Maine.

Session Events
Campers partake on overnight camping trips at least once per session, while extended
trips are an optional part of the senior camper program. Olympics and Kollege Days also
take place each session, respectively, with an unbelievable "break" and an unforgettable
closing Song Fest.
Other Programs
Other special programs include our Kamp 'n Kamp, the N.E.X.T. program, and Senior
Privileges.
Kamp 'n Kamp is literally a camp within Kamp Kohut. Campers going into 7th, 8th, 9th,
or 10th grade can sign up for a day-long specialty clinic in an activity of their choice. The
goal of the Kamp 'n Kamp program is to offer campers the opportunity to further their
skills in a particular area of interest, such as arts & crafts, tennis, or rock climbing, among
others. Often, these clinics are taught by local professionals or take place off-camp in
local licensed or specialized facilities. The Kamp 'n Kamp program is ideal for campers
who are interested in further preparing for an upcoming sports season or other extra-
curricular activity at school.
The N.E.X.T. (New Experiences & Training) Program is a program geared toward aged
out campers entering 10th and 11th grades. This program allows campers to come back to
Kohut between their camper and counselor years, gain experience, and earn certifications
in various areas, such as lifeguarding, coaching, and first aid & CPR. Participants can
also complete community service hours, study for standardized tests, and can take part in
various camp activities.
Senior Privileges are reserved for our two oldest age groups (going into 9th and 10th
grade) and include additional supervised co-ed activities, off-camp trips, extended
overnight trips with their bunk, and later bed times on designated evenings. Seniors also
have the option of volunteering for leadership roles on Blue & White Day and during
Olympics and Kollege Days. Seniors are also asked to be "Big Brothers" or "Big Sisters"
to our newer, younger campers and are encouraged to be role models for other campers.
